What are your products made from?

Our wax melts contain 100% natural soy wax, phthalate-free and essential oil-infused fragrance oils, occasionally a small amount of dye and non-toxic glitters. All of our melts are paraffin-free. Unlike paraffin-based candles and melts, our soy wax is vegetable based and therefore all natural.

How is soy wax made?

Eco-friendly, renewable, sustainable and carbon neutral, soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybean oil. To get to the oil, harvested soybeans are cleaned, de-hulled, cracked and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from these flakes and hydrogenated, a process where the unsaturated fatty acids present in the oil are saturated. This alters the melting point of the oil, making it solidify at room temperature and suitable for use in scented wax products.

Are your products vegan?

Yes, our full collection of wax melts is vegan friendly and cruelty free. We never use ingredients that are derived from animal products in the production of our wax melts. We are fully against animal testing.

What is 'frosting' or 'blooming'?

We use natural soy wax which occasionally has a tendency to 'frost'. This frosting, or blooming, is a natural characteristic of soy wax and sometimes it is unavoidable. It does NOT affect the scent or strength of your melts but is simply a side effect of using all-natural wax. While we do everything we can to eliminate this, it can happen at any time. Soy can be volatile to work with and even the slightest change to room temperature for example can result in frosting. Once you have received your wax melts we advise you store them at room temperature free from exposure to strong light sources and fluctuations in temperatures. Storage temperature should not be allowed to exceed 27°C or fall below 0°C.

Many other wax companies use paraffin wax – why is soy wax so much better?

What is a wax melt?

Essentially a wax melt is a wick-less version of a candle. Placed into either tealight or electric operated wax warmers, the heat gently melts the wax and releases the fragrance.

What are the advantages of wax melts over candles?

There are many pros to using wax melts. For a detailed overview please see

How do I use your wax melts?

To use our wax melts simply cut to portion (we recommend using a quarter of one of our melts) and place in a wax melt suitable warmer. Wax warmers come in a variety of styles – tealight, low wattage bulbs or electric operated are all suitable to use.

How should your wax melts be stored?

The packaging your wax melts are supplied in has been carefully selected to ensure the best possible scent retention in the wax. It is therefore recommended to store in the original packaging in a cool, dry place away from any direct sources of light and heat.

How strong are your scents? Will the scent fill my whole house?

Scent sensitivity varies greatly from person to person. We load all of our melts with the maximum percentage of fragrance oil the wax will hold to create an exceptional scent throw – after just a few minutes of being lit, your room will start to fill with fragrance. The answer to these questions however will ultimately be dependent on individual noses, room size and warmer type. If you are concerned about scent strength and your wax melts smelling too strong, we would advise you to start with a quarter of one of our melts to determine the 'perfect' portion for you.

How long can I expect the scent to last?

We use the highest approved ratio of fragrance oil to wax, so as to ensure a strong, long lasting scent throw from each melt we make. You should expect to experience a minimum of 4 hours of fragrance from each quarter of wax, though as our wax melts are loaded with fragrance to their saturation point many of our waxes are strong enough to be used for a second or third burn. Please take into consideration however that certain factors may alter the strength and longevity of the fragrance experienced, such as: room size, burner size, amount used, draughts and individual noses.

How much do I melt at a time?

We suggest starting with a quarter of one of our wax melts to determine how you like the strength level of each particular scent. More can be added if needed, though please take care to ensure your wax warmer doesn't overflow.

What is the shelf life of one of your wax melts?

Up to one year from the date of purchase. For best results make sure your wax melts are stored in a cool environment to prevent premature melting and ideally in their original packaging to preserve their freshness.

Are your products CLP compliant?

Yes. Every product you purchase from us will come with the correct CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) attached as per the current EU guidelines. Please store our melts in the packaging they came with so the CLP is on hand should you need to refer back to it. If you ever require help with ingredients before purchasing please send us a message and we can advise.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured. Our product and public liability insurance is provided by Ian W Wallace Ltd.

Can I use House of Hannah wax melts in any brand of wax warmer?

Yes, absolutely! House of Hannah wax melts can be used in any warmer designed for standard wax melts.

What happens if a child or a pet accidentally swallows some wax?

The primary ingredient in our melts is non-toxic soy wax. Ingestion of small quantities of wax will not result in a medical emergency. Some minor gastrointestinal effects such as nausea may be experienced. In the unlikely event that a large quantity of wax is ingested it is recommended that a doctor be consulted for treatment advice.

  1. Wax melts have more burn time

Many factors can affect both the average burn time of candles and the average burn time of wax melts. The type of wax, amount of fragrance oil and size of candle or wax melt can all affect the average burn time.

Wax melts are more solidly aromatic than traditional candles because they absorb heat more slowly and release aromas without burning the oils. This allows the wax to continue releasing scent without the fragrance evaporating quickly. The opposite happens when you burn a candle, as the heat from the flame keeps the wax at a higher temperature, causing a faster release of fragrance into the air.

  2. Wax melts don't release chemicals

Candles can emit harmful chemicals and pollutants, which can aggravate asthma, allergies, and have even been linked to cancer. Candles can release potentially hazardous chemicals such as benzene and toluene, which can cause damage to the brain, lungs, and central nervous system. Paraffin is the major ingredient in most conventional candles and is a waste product from the petroleum industry. It releases carcinogenic chemicals when burned. The fumes are similar to the fumes released from a diesel engine and can be as dangerous as second-hand cigarette smoke. In addition, many scented candles also have wicks that contain heavy metals like lead, and even a few hours of burning them can create airborne heavy metals that are much higher than the acceptable limits.

  3. Wax melts are more convenient than candles

Wax melts and wax melt warmers are more acceptable to use in the workplace, apartments and other places where customary candles and their flames could cause difficulty. Wax melting is also highly revered by parents who are wary of small children being around flames. They are convenient, because there is no requirement for a lighter or matches, and the wax melts themselves are compact and usually come in a packed box or bag for storage.

  4. Scent can be controlled better with wax melts

You can manage the strength of your fragrance with wax melts because they come in small sizes and shapes that you can break apart or add more of depending on your scent sensitivity. Make sure the combined number of pieces totals no more than 1 oz, or you could overflow your wax warmer. Another benefit of wax melts over candles is that you can blend your wax melts, cubes, or tarts to produce new fragrances. To do this, you need to make sure the sizes of the melts you break off are the same (depending on which scent you want stronger), and simply place them into your wax warmer at the same time.

  5. Wax melts don't contain soot

When you are using scented candles, be sure to be cautious of the soot they put out and the effect on your air. Soot from a candle is caused when there is an incomplete combustion of fuel. Over time, candles can cause discoloration to your walls and curtains and can stain the edges of your furniture. There are also health concerns associated with exposure to soot. It can agitate bronchitis, asthma and respiratory issues, causing shortness of breath. Once the soot enters your bloodstream, it can become a catalyst for stroke, heart attack, and cancer.

  6. Wax melts are better for the environment

Did you know that glass is actually one of the longest-lasting man-made materials? The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services estimates that it takes a glass bottle 1 million years to decompose! If you buy at least one 16-oz candle a month, in a year you could be contributing an extra 12 lbs. of waste to landfill just in candle jars alone. As many as 28 billion glass containers are discarded in landfills each year. Some experts suggest that this glass refuse will remain indefinitely. The first step to minimising glass waste is to reduce our purchase of glass beyond what is truly needed. Wax melt warmers are extremely durable, with one wax melt warmer lasting 4 to 6 years on average with proper care. If you opt for wax melt warmers instead of traditional candle jars, you could contribute to saving the environment 48 lbs of waste.

If you haven't had the chance to try soy wax instead of traditional paraffin, you could be missing out on a host of benefits. Melting soy wax is a much better option than traditional paraffin for many reasons.

  1. Soy wax is natural

Derived from the soybean, soy wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns to a solid at room temperature. Soy wax contains nothing artificial, which makes it a better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum oil and produces harmful by-products when burned or melted.

  2. Soy wax delivers a clean burn

Unlike paraffin wax, which gives off black soot when burned, soy wax burns cleaner. Since paraffin wax is petroleum-based, burning it produces a black soot that can potentially stain curtains, walls, and carpets inside the home. As a vegetable-based wax, soy wax does not give off any harmful by- products that might cause damage.

  3. Soy wax does not release toxins into the air

Soy wax is a healthier alternative to paraffin wax in that it does not release dangerous carcinogens into the air when melted like paraffin wax does. Burning and/or melting paraffin releases at least 11 known toxins—two of which are carcinogens—into the air. Carcinogens are known to cause cancer in some people.

  4. Soy wax is environmentally friendly

Since soy wax is made from soybeans, it is friendly to the environment because soybeans are a renewable resource. Paraffin wax comes from petroleum, which is not a renewable resource. This is especially important if you are pregnant, have children, or have pets, because it's the safest option health-wise. You want to avoid wax blends or candles that don't state the exact breakdown of ingredients.

  5. Soy wax has a lower melting point

From a safety standpoint, soy wax is the better choice because it has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means less risk of burns should you accidentally spill any melted wax on your skin.

  6. Soy wax is cheaper

While soy wax is sometimes more expensive to purchase than paraffin wax melts, it lasts up to 50 percent longer and is more cost-effective in the long run.

  7. Soy wax scents are stronger

Because soy wax burns cleaner than paraffin wax, the scent from its essential oils is more pleasant and stronger-smelling than the chemical scents added to paraffin. It's common to hear people complain of headaches when paraffin candles burn, but in general, this isn't due to the scent of the wax but rather the toxins it releases into the air.
